Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) is going to organize ‘Janta Darbars’ or public grievance redress camps every Friday at predetermined locations covering all housing schemes of the UT. The first camp will be organized in Sector 56 on June 19. Danish Ashraf, secretary of the board, would preside over these camps, and will be accompanied by officers of the board, to hear the grievances of the allottees.
“The purpose is to provide speedy decisions in different cases relating to pendency, violations, misuse, encroachments and dispute settlement etc., at the doorstep of the allottees,” said a release by the board. The first darbar on June 19 is at the Sector-56 community centre to dispose of grievances of allottees of CHB in that sector. Locations of further darbars “shall be notified in due course”, added the release.
This is on the lines of such an initiative by the estate office, which held its first camp in Sector 23 on May 20, though that hasn’t moved further.
CHB Residents’ Federation welcomed the move, and its president Nirmal Datt commented, “This weekly camp system is in the ‘bhagidari’ or partnering spirit that we have been seeking from the board for long.”
There are over 60,000 CHB dwelling units in the UT.
The federation had held a rally on Sunday to thank the board for some recent decisions. These include scrapping the lock-in period clause for GPA holders and removing report on structural changes, categorised as violations, as a prerequisite for ownership transfer. A larger policy on ‘need-based’ changes is already in the works too.
