Ghaziabad Development Authority has decided to increase houses in the area under Samajwadi Awas Yojna which would be constructed by private developers. The decision was taken on Monday 5 October, 2015 in the board meeting of GDA and in this meeting the authority has changed the land use in two villages Basantpur-Saintalli and Kushliya from agricultural to residential and proposed to hand over the acquired land to two private developers for constructing affordable houses.

According to the official the developers Ms RS Landcraft LLP Consortium and Ms Shreya Developers Pvt Ltd Consortium will soon sent to the SUDD (State Urban Development Department) for its approval. However, the proposal lifted up many unsatisfied faces. The scheme SAY (Samajwadi Awas Yojna) was launched in the end of 2014 by the Uttar Pradesh government with the aim to provide 3.5 lakh affordable houses by 2016. The president of Federation of Association of Apartment Owners Mr. Alok Kumar asked “Why is GDA not coming forward in developing housing schemes under Samajwadi Awas Yojna when it has means and resources to do so?“

The GDA defended their move by saying that everything was passed through a legal process. The official of GDA Mr. Ravinder Godbole said that “Be it changing land use or taking decision to give away land to private builders for developing residential units, in both the cases, rules are being followed and there is nothing wrong in this”.
