On 25 February, State government of Tamil Nadu has launched projects worth Rs. 753 crore, including major housing scheme for uniformed personnel. The scheme was announced earlier in 2012 by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
According to the source, the CM inaugurated 2,673 houses constructed for personnel from Police and Fire and Rescue Services in line with an announcement made in the state assembly. She inaugurated the houses through video conferencing and gave away keys to 14 beneficiaries here and wished them all the best in their new residential accommodation.
The houses have been constructed at at Melakotaiyur in the neighboring Kancheepuram district for personnel from constables to Deputy Superintendents of Police and Fireman to Station Manager in Fire and Rescue Services.
The source said the houses will be available in the size range of 1100 square feet for DSP; 850 square feet for Inspector and 650 square feet for Constable.
Around 1,749 police quarters have also been inaugurated by Jayalalithaa which are constructed in different parts of the state, including Madurai, Cuddalore, Chennai and Namakkal at a cost of Rs 202 crore for both Police and Fire and Rescue Services.
The overall estimate of the facilities inaugurated today was Rs 753.82 crore, the release said.
