NIT Budger 2016-17 Focuses on Housing & Other Developments

Nagpur Improvement Trust has announced a budget of Rs. 1000 crore for 2016-17 for the development of area. The budget worth is mainly focuses on housing and development of unauthorized layouts. This budget also includes the amount for the development of Chicholi museum, Deekshabhoomi, Kamptee Dragon Palace temple and Koradi temple. According to the source, the agency will spend around Rs. 870 on development works.

NIT Nagpur has decided to construct 50,000 houses for lower income group (LIG) families under PM’s affordable housing scheme and the agency will spend a sum of Rs. 20 crore on this development. Besides this, 448 flats at Shesh Nagar, Wathoda, 2,000 flats at Hazaripahad and 766 flats at Sangharsh Nagar will also be constructed by the agency. Currently the work of housing scheme at Bhamti and Chikhli Deosthan is in progress.

Following the instruction of state government, the NIT will spend around Rs. 200 crore for the development of Gunthewari layouts. It has earmarked Rs 90 crore for this purpose. Of this, Rs 48 crore would be raised from the residents of these layouts in the form of regularization charges.

According to the source, around Rs. 40 crore will be spent on the Chicholi museum where personal articles of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar are kept.

The premises will be beautified, a mass training centre, meditation centre, cafeteria, public toilets, dining hall, teachers’ cottages, staff quarters, hostel for students etc will be constructed. Rs 20 crore has been allocated for 2016-17.

A consultant will also be appointed by NIT to prepare a masterplan for the development of Deekshabhoomi.
The topic of acquiring 15 acre land near the monument for Central Institute of Cotton Research (CICR) was also out in the meeting. The development of this area is expected to be in the range of Rs 200 crore to Rs 250 crore.

Meanwhile, a committee for repairing the monument has been formed for which the government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 9 crore.

At the same time, a plan for the development of Dragon Palace temple with the worth of Rs. 214 has also been submitted to the state government for approval.

NIT also plans to develop Koradi temple premises at a cost of Rs 210 crore. In the first phase, a commercial complex, tourist centre, bus stand and parking area will be constructed. In the second phase, a tourist lodge having 216 rooms will be constructed.

Some projects will be undertaken on public private partnership (PPP) basis. They include schools at Nari and Chikhli (Deo), construction of vegetable markets at Indora, construction of auditorium at Lal Godam, commercial complex at Gokulpeth market, multi-level car parking on Central Avenue, construction of big community hall on Nari Ring Road, police housing at Lakadganj and administrative building of East Nagpur regional transport office (RTO). Some of these project are old ones.
