Odisha Planning 21 Rental Housing Projects for Construction Workers

Odisha state government is going to launch rental housing projects for construction workers in the city who are living in deprived conditions without access to shelter and basic amenities. About 400 beds will be made available under the rental housing scheme for construction labourers and they can stay there by paying
considerably low amount of rent.

Rental Housing Projects
These housing projects will be located at Kharavel Nagar, Sampur and Chandrasekharpur over the area of four acres land. A project with 200-bed in Kharavel Nagar on 1 acres land would be constructed at the estimated worth of Rs. 4.5 acres and other two projects will have 100-beds on the land of 2.6 acres at the cost of Rs 5.5 crore.

The foundation stone of these rental housing projects will be laid down by CM Naveen Patnaik on the occasion of International Workers’ Day. Odisha Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (OBOCWWB) informed that 18 more rental housing projects will be constructed at nine more urban centres in the state and each will have two projects which to be constructed in phased manner.

Location of 18 Rental Housing Projects

  • 100-bed housing projects will be located in four municipal corporation including Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur.
  • 50-bed housing complexes will be available in five municipalities including Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Vyasanagar and Paradip.

The implementation process of these housing project will be done by Housing & Urban Development Department under Odisha Urban Housing Mission (OUHM) scheme an the funds will be provided by OBOCWWB. These 21 projects will be developed across the state at the estimated cost of Rs. 50 crores. The projects will have basic necessities like sanitation, electricity, drinking water, connectivity at affordable rent.
