PM Awas Yojana: KMC Kolhapur Invites Applications for the Scheme

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana: On Saturday, Kolhapur Municipal Corporation invited applications from homeless citizens and slum dwellers for houses in PM Awas Yojana. The scheme is aimed to provide housing to all by 2022.
For implementing the scheme in the first phase, the state government has selected two cities from the district Kolhapur and Ichalkaranji.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is also known as Housing for All by 2022 targeted to provide house for the urban poor by 2022.

The scheme is demand-driven and only those applying for it are entitled to get the house. The scheme has four components depending on the mode of project execution, economic status of the urban poor, loan-based housing and individual houses at affordable rates.

The application for the scheme will be available from 20 April and the beneficiary can contact officers at all division wards offices for further details.

The union government has categorized the beneficiaries based on income levels. According to the source, most of the housing project under PMAY will be carries out through PPP (Public Private Partnership) to bring down the financial burden of civic bodies.

To be eligible for the scheme, the beneficiary should have an annual income less than Rs. 6 lakh and the detailed guidelines of the scheme have been released by the Centre.

A socio economic survey for selecting the beneficiaries will be undertaken by the civic body. According to the source, the civic administration has the experience of drafting proposals for slum rehabilitation projects under the earlier scheme of RAY. In the PMAY, the beneficiary has to contribute a small amount of total cost of housing units.
The size of housing unit in PMAY will be in the range of 330 square meters to 500 square meters. For the economically weaker sections of the urban poor, the banks will provide loans up to Rs 6 lakh with minimum interest rates.
