Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gujarat Demands 9.78 lakh Affordable Houses

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gujarat: Gujarat state government recently conducted a demand survey of PMAY to find out the housing demand in the state. According to the source, the estimated need of housing across the state is around 9.78 lakh which has been estimated through this PMAY Demand Survey.

In Gujarat Budget 2017-18, the state government has set a target of constructing 45,000 affordable houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Mukhyamantri Gruh Yojana or Mukhyamanti Shahari Vikas Yojana (MSVY) and 1,00,000 houses under other scheme of Gujarat government.

The completion of this housing demand will take a minimum time period of around 7 to 8 years for estimated 9.78 lakh houses. The recent state budget allocated Rs 1,340 crore for the various housing schemes.

The survey does not include housing under slum redevelopment schemes. The estimate is claimed to have been made scientifically but it is possible that many of those in need of housing were not included in the survey.

According to the estimates of PM Awas Yojana survey, 3.34 lakh houses will be needed in Ahmedabad district alone, mainly in the Ahmedabad. Surat is at the second place in the requirement of housing demand as it will require around 3,47,396 houses under the Affordable Housing Project, which is based on public-private partnership (PPP).

Under BLC (beneficiary-led construction) component of PMAY, the requirement is around of 1,17,302 dwelling units.

The biggest requirement estimated, 5,13,362 houses, is under the CLS (Credit Linked Scheme), where the government provides a 6.5% interest subsidy for homes costing up to Rs 6 lakh.

In the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Gujarat is at the top position and has covered all 171 urban area of municipal corporation, urban development authorities and municipalities.

The state government launched Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Gujarat in June 2015 and has completed the construction of around 3,439 houses out of 1,02,853 sanctioned houses. Apart from, 45,133 houses are in the state of under construction.
