An issue of land for constructing housing units has been resolved. According to the source, Housing Minister, M. Krishnappa said that the government has resolved the issue of purchasing private land for constructing housing projects where the government land is not available.
As per the information, around Rs. 25 lakh will be spent on developing the land for constructing houses in the project. Th project is for ensuring house for homeless.
In the meeting of official departments and municipalities and others Mysuru division, Mr. Krishnappa said that the availability of government land had remained a challenge in towns and cities for housing projects. “In such places, we are thinking of building houses vertically”, he added.
Around 45,000 houses will be constructed for the people living in slum at the worth of Rs. 2,500 crore. On ther other side, Karnataka Housing Board has set a target of constructing around 24,000 houses in the area.
He further added that the government has resolved to give its land for free for the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme. The ceiling for purchasing lands in rural areas for building homes has been increased from Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 9 lakh.
The ministry is ready to purchase lands even paying a sum of Rs. 75 lakh as in the case of Bengaluru and nearby area. The government has set a target of constructing 9.75 lakh houses under Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme. Under the scheme, around 4 lakh houses has been constructed and remaining will be build by next year at the worth of Rs. 2,000 crore.
The minister stated that around 6 lakh houses will be allotted to the beneficiaries of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme by 2016-2017 and asked the official to ensure transparent selection procedure under RGHS.
The meeting was also attended by G.T. Deve Gowda, MLA, Deputy Commissioners and CEOs of ZPs from the districts under Mysuru division and other officials from the town and city municipalities.
The Minister has also told them to meet the deadlines set by him on the selection of beneficiaries besides ensuring 75 per cent progress by next meeting.
