Tamil Nadu Housing Board has planned to build about 62 thousand homes by the year 2022 to meet the increasing demand of housing. The TNHB has prepared an yeas wise plan to construct the housing units.
The housing board has been planning to rope in private developers for the fulfillment of housing needs. According to the board, meeting the increasing demands of housing for economically weaker section and lower income group will require huge expenditure and manpower hence the task can not be accomplished without any external support by the body alone.
TNHB is also planning to increase the floor space index to meet short supply of land among several other possibilities. In order to attract more and more private developers to participate, TNHB will also be providing basic building material such as cement and steel at subsidized rates to the developers besides the waiver of service tax.
TNHB is also looking for some amendments in the housing loan interests and land acquisition law especially in case of EWS and LIG housing. The body is also feels the necessity of doing research & development to find low cost building material which can be made available locally.
TNHB may also consider adopting the housing based on factory made precast structures to expedite the whole process and still keep it affordable.
