Telangana is all set to get its first ever housing scheme for the economically weaker sections of the society as a part of pre-poll promises by the forming Government.
There will be 5000 houses constructed in Gajwel for the poorest of the poor in the first phase of the scheme and the price of the homes would be just Rs. 3 Lakh. The scheme will be extended to other parts of the state very soon. According to the sources, the preference will be given to the people who are living in thatched huts or are homeless. These beneficiaries will be identified by a committee.
The area of the houses will be 125 square yards and 2 bedrooms, 1 hall, 1 kitchen and a toilet will be offered. Telangana CM will himself lay the foundation stone for the scheme in coming days.
Telangana government has already instructed the responsible authorities to process the scheme and start receiving applications. The District Collector of Medak has been given the responsibility of opening counters for receiving applications from the poor from June 5th, 2014.
According to the conservative estimates, there is a demand of at least 6 lakh houses in rural areas and 22 lakh houses in urban areas of the Telangana state bringing it to a total of 28 lakh. The priority will be given to the construction of homes in rural areas while the housing in urban areas will be extended later, according to the government.
