Aligarh, famously known as ‘Tala Nagari’ (City of Locks), is a significant industrial and commercial hub in Uttar Pradesh. Located strategically at the intersection of National Highways 93 and 91, Aligarh has experienced rapid urbanization and industrial expansion. The Aligarh Master Plan has been formulated to ensure planned urban growth, infrastructure development, and industrial expansion while maintaining a balance between modernization and heritage conservation.

Historical Background of Aligarh Master Plan

• 1975: Aligarh was declared a Regulated Area under Government Order No. 2552 / 37-3-336 NK V./ 72 dated 13.11.1975.
• 1980: The first Aligarh Master Plan was approved under Government Order No. 1272 / 37-3-87 N.K.V-77, Housing Section-3, Lucknow dated 04.02.1980.
• 1981: Aligarh was designated as a Development Area, marking the beginning of structured urban planning.
• 2021 Revision: The master plan was revised to accommodate the projected population growth and industrial expansion in Aligarh and Harduaganj.
